The word ‘jaguar' refers to a feline animal that is the third largest of its kind, following the lion and the tiger. Being a swift-moving feline creature, the Swallow Sidecar Company used the word for a car brand it created in 1922. Jaguar was a car brand that has gained so much popularity and recognition all over the world.

Jaguar Cars Limited is a United Kingdom-based car maker of luxury and sports cars. Being in the global car industry for the past several decades, many people and car aficionados are rendering so much respect and association to excellence even in the word Jaguar. As a company, Jaguar was not originally the name of the firm that makes the vehicle. It was Swallow Sidecar Company, which used the name for one of its frontline car models in 1922.

Because of the success of the Jaguar brand, the company was eventually embossed with it. In 1935, Jaguar preyed on Swallow literally, and so the company adopted the Jaguar name for a new company name. Thus, we have the Jaguar Cars Limited, which was still based in Coventry in England.

The success of Jaguar was so enormous that for sometime, Jaguar became a standard for premium cars. In the 1950s, Jaguar launched itself in full swing with the release of a number of its own elegantly-styled and luxurious sports cars. Because of its successful and highly thriving business, the company also forayed into several acquisitions, including Birmingham Small Arms Company' Daimler, which is not related to Daimler-Benz, another car maker from Germany.

Jaguar was spun off and was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984. The stock soared and was literally as successful as the car brand. As a listed company, Jaguar Cars Limited had its own set of investors and directors. It was eventually made independent from its parent firm. Jaguar was deemed a very important car brand and was very promising compared to all other luxury car brands.

In September of 1989, Jaguar was approached by the United States-based Ford Motor Company. It took several months for the merger proposal to push through. In January the next year, Jaguar shareholders finally accepted and approved the deal. Thus, Jaguar was acquired by Ford. Up until now, the car brand is still among the roster of numerous luxury car brands under the wings of Ford.

Jaguar was assigned to be part of Ford's Premier Automotive Group in 1999. Premier Automotive Group is a bunch of premium car brands owned and distributed exclusively by Ford. The group includes Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin, and of course, on top of the list, Jaguar.

Through the entire length of its existence, Jaguar has been known for so many car models that can be considered historical, notable and contemporary. The car brand is also known for its exclusive use of highly reliable historical engines that are made and designed especially for Jaguar cars. There are also a number of Jaguar concept models and sports car racing brands.

The next time you see the growling and jumping jaguar logo, think of Jaguar and its superior cut and advantage against the rest of the global luxury car brands.
